Clotrimazole (1%w/v)

Treatment of fungal infections in the mouth and throat such as oral candidiasis (thrush), sore mouth due to Candida infection

Clotrimazole is an antifungal medicine that inhibits synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane. This damages the membrane, causing leakage of cell contents and death of the fungus.

For topical use in the mouth only. Apply a small amount to the affected areas inside the mouth using a clean finger/cotton swab as advised by the doctor, usually 2-3 times daily. Avoid eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes after application. Continue for the full prescribed duration even if symptoms improve.

Mild burning or stinging at application site, irritation, unpleasant taste, nausea, mouth dryness

Use only as directed and do not swallow large amounts. Avoid contact with eyes. Stop and seek medical advice if severe irritation, allergy (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty) occurs. If symptoms persist beyond 7–14 days or recur frequently, consult a doctor. Use with caution in children and in patients with immunosuppression/diabetes; underlying causes may need evaluation.

No significant interactions expected with topical oral use; however, clotrimazole may increase effects of warfarin when systemically absorbed—inform doctor if on anticoagulants. Avoid using other oral topical products simultaneously unless advised.

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
