Treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension); prevention of angina (chest pain) due to coronary artery disease.

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that relaxes and widens blood vessels by inhibiting calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle. This lowers blood pressure and reduces the workload on the heart, improving blood flow and helping prevent angina.

Tablet for oral use. Take once daily at the same time each day, with or without food, as prescribed by the doctor. Swallow with water; do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Headache, dizziness, flushing, ankle/foot swelling (edema), tiredness, palpitations, nausea, abdominal pain

Use with caution in liver disease; dose adjustment may be needed. Can cause low blood pressure, dizziness or swelling—use caution while driving if affected. Inform doctor if you have heart failure, severe aortic stenosis, or recent heart attack. Do not stop medicine abruptly; regular BP monitoring is advised.

Other antihypertensives (additive BP lowering), simvastatin (limit simvastatin dose when used with amlodipine), strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., clarithromycin, ketoconazole, ritonavir) may increase levels, CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., rifampicin, phenytoin, carbamazepine) may reduce effect, grapefruit juice may increase levels, tacrolimus/cyclosporine (may increase levels—monitor)
