Tablet
Treatment of bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis/tonsillitis, bronchitis), ear infections (otitis media), urinary tract infections, and uncomplicated typhoid fever, as prescribed by a doctor
Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It kills susceptible bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell death.
Dispersible tablet: dissolve the tablet in a small amount of water and consume immediately, or take as directed. Can be taken with or without food (preferably at the same time each day). Complete the full prescribed course; do not stop early even if symptoms improve.
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, indigestion, flatulence, headache, dizziness, skin rash
Use only for bacterial infections; misuse may cause antibiotic resistance. Inform doctor if allergic to cephalosporins/penicillins. Use with caution in kidney disease; dose adjustment may be required. Seek medical help if severe diarrhoea, blood in stool, or severe rash occurs (possible C. difficile colitis/allergic reaction). May affect gut flora and rarely cause superinfection.
Warfarin/other anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk), Probenecid (may increase cefixime levels), Carbamazepine (levels may increase), Live oral typhoid vaccine (reduced effect)
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
