Tablet
Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), especially when single-drug therapy is insufficient; helps reduce risk of cardiovascular events by controlling blood pressure.
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that relaxes blood vessels by blocking angiotensin II action. Metoprolol succinate is a beta-1 selective beta-blocker that slows heart rate and reduces cardiac output. Together they lower blood pressure and reduce strain on the heart.
Take orally as directed by physician, usually once daily at the same time each day. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew (extended-release). Can be taken with or without food.
dizziness, headache, tiredness, slow heart rate (bradycardia), low blood pressure, nausea, cold hands/feet, diarrhea
May cause dizziness—avoid driving until you know its effect. Do not stop metoprolol suddenly (risk of rebound angina/heart attack); taper only under medical advice. Use with caution in asthma/COPD, diabetes (may mask hypoglycemia), severe bradycardia/heart block, heart failure, kidney/liver impairment, and dehydration. Monitor blood pressure, pulse, kidney function and potassium; risk of hyperkalemia especially in kidney disease or with potassium-raising drugs. Contraindicated in pregnancy (ARB fetotoxicity).
Potassium supplements/salt substitutes, potassium-sparing diuretics (spironolactone/eplerenone/amiloride), ACE inhibitors/aliskiren (esp. in diabetes), NSAIDs (reduced effect/kidney risk), lithium (toxicity), other antihypertensives/diuretics (excess BP lowering), digoxin, verapamil/diltiazem/amiodarone (bradycardia/heart block), clonidine (withdrawal hypertension), insulin/oral antidiabetics (masked hypoglycemia), rifampicin and other enzyme inducers/inhibitors affecting beta-blockers
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
