How It Works
Medroxyprogesterone is a synthetic progesterone (progestin). It corrects progesterone deficiency, stabilizes the uterine lining (endometrium) and, after stopping the medicine, withdrawal bleeding may occur to help regulate the menstrual cycle.
Directions for Use
Tablet to be taken by mouth as prescribed by the doctor. Can be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. Dose and duration depend on the condition (e.g., amenorrhoea or abnormal bleeding); do not self-start or stop without medical advice.
Side Effects
Nausea, headache, breast tenderness, bloating, abdominal pain/cramps, dizziness, mood changes, spotting/breakthrough bleeding, changes in periods, weight gain
Warnings & Precautions
Prescription-only (Schedule H). Not for use in known/suspected pregnancy. Seek medical advice before use if you have liver disease, history of blood clots (DVT/PE), stroke/heart disease, breast/uterine cancer, unexplained vaginal bleeding, severe depression, diabetes, or migraine. May cause irregular bleeding especially initially. Stop and seek urgent care for symptoms of thrombosis (leg swelling/pain, chest pain, sudden breathlessness) or jaundice. Use caution when driving if dizzy.
