Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults requiring improved glycemic control along with diet and exercise.
Gliclazide MR stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells and improves glucose utilization. The modified-release formulation provides more even drug release to help maintain blood sugar control through the day.
Take once daily with breakfast, swallow whole (do not crush/chew). Maintain regular meals and monitor glucose; dose is titrated by doctor based on response.
Hypoglycemia, dizziness, nausea, abdominal discomfort, weight gain, headache, rash
Hypoglycemia risk increases with missed meals, alcohol, or intense exercise. Use caution in elderly and in renal/hepatic impairment; not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Inform doctor about fasting, surgery, or acute illness.
Insulin/other antidiabetics (hypoglycemia), alcohol (hypoglycemia), azoles/macrolides (increase effect), rifampicin (decrease effect), beta-blockers (mask symptoms), corticosteroids/thiazides (increase glucose)
