Drotitec Injection is a prescription medicine containing Drotaverine (40mg/2ml). It is used for abdominal cramps, irritable bowel syndrome, period pain and colic. It belongs to the group of medicines called Antispasmodic.
This is given by a doctor or a nurse. The dose and how long you take it depend on what you are being treated for and how you respond. Do not take more, or for longer, than your doctor has advised.
The side effects seen most often with Drotitec Injection are dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation and drowsiness. Most are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if one persists or worries you.
Before you start, tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problem, whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, including supplements and ayurvedic preparations. Some of them can change how Drotitec Injection works.
Most side effects of Drotitec are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
This is given by a doctor or a nurse. Do not attempt to inject it yourself unless you have been trained and told to. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.
Drotaverine relaxes the muscle in the wall of the gut, relieving the cramping pain of a spasm.
Severe abdominal pain, particularly with fever or vomiting, needs a doctor rather than a painkiller or antispasmodic. May cause blurred vision and drowsiness — do not drive until you know how it affects you. Tell your doctor if you have glaucoma, an enlarged prostate or difficulty passing urine.
Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.
An overdose of this medicine can cause a racing heart, confusion, blurred vision and difficulty passing urine. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Adds to the dry mouth, constipation and drowsiness caused by antihistamines and some antidepressants.
Store as printed on the carton — some injections need refrigeration and must not be frozen. Keep out of the reach of children.
