Monograph
Syrup
Used for productive (wet) cough with thick mucus associated with bronchitis, asthma, COPD and other respiratory tract infections/conditions with chest congestion and wheezing.
Ambroxol is a mucolytic that thins and loosens thick mucus, helping its clearance from airways. Guaifenesin is an expectorant that increases hydration of secretions and helps expel phlegm. Levosalbutamol is a selective beta-2 bronchodilator that relaxes airway muscles to relieve bronchospasm and wheeze.
Oral syrup. Take as prescribed by the doctor; commonly taken 2–3 times daily. Can be taken with or without food; taking after food may reduce stomach upset. Shake well before use and measure with a cup/spoon; maintain adequate fluid intake.
Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, tremor, nervousness, palpitations, fast heartbeat, throat irritation, dry mouth, rash
Use with caution in heart disease, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, seizure disorders, and in patients with arrhythmias. Do not exceed the recommended dose; seek medical help if breathing worsens, severe palpitations/chest pain occurs, or allergic reaction develops. Use caution in liver/kidney impairment. Not recommended for self-medication in children; use only on medical advice.
Beta-blockers (e.g., propranolol) may reduce bronchodilation; other sympathomimetics may increase side effects; diuretics/corticosteroids/xanthines may increase risk of low potassium; MAO inhibitors/tricyclic antidepressants may enhance cardiovascular effects; digoxin levels may be reduced with beta-agonists; antitussives may reduce mucus clearance when combined.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children. Do not freeze.
