Treatment of herpes zoster (shingles), recurrent genital herpes, herpes simplex infections; used in some cases for chickenpox (varicella) as prescribed.

Acyclovir is an antiviral that is converted to its active form in virus-infected cells and inhibits viral DNA polymerase. This blocks viral DNA synthesis and limits replication, reducing severity and duration of outbreaks.

Dispersible tablet: dissolve in a small amount of water and drink immediately, or swallow as directed. Take at the same times each day; start as early as possible after symptoms appear. Can be taken with or without food; maintain good hydration.

Use with caution in kidney disease and in elderly patients; dose adjustment may be needed. Ensure adequate fluid intake to reduce risk of kidney problems. Stop and seek medical help if allergic reaction (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty) occurs. Use only on doctor’s advice in immunocompromised patients; not a cure and does not prevent transmission—avoid sexual contact during active genital herpes lesions.
