Neuropathic pain (nerve pain) such as diabetic neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia; adjunct treatment of partial (focal) seizures; other nerve pain conditions as prescribed.

Gabapentin is an antiepileptic/neuropathic pain medicine that binds to the α2δ subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the CNS. This reduces release of excitatory neurotransmitters and decreases abnormal nerve signaling, relieving neuropathic pain and helping control seizures.

Tablet taken by mouth as prescribed, with or without food (preferably at the same time each day). Swallow with water; do not stop suddenly without medical advice. Dose is usually started low and titrated based on response and kidney function.

Dizziness, drowsiness/somnolence, fatigue, ataxia (unsteadiness), peripheral edema, blurred vision, nausea, dry mouth, weight gain

May cause dizziness and sleepiness—avoid driving or operating machinery until you know its effects. Do not stop abruptly (risk of withdrawal symptoms/seizure worsening); taper as advised. Use with caution in kidney disease (dose adjustment needed) and in elderly (higher fall risk). Monitor for mood changes, depression, or suicidal thoughts. Seek urgent help for severe rash, swelling/angioedema, or breathing difficulty.

Alcohol and other CNS depressants (increased sedation), opioids (e.g., morphine—enhanced CNS depression; may increase gabapentin levels), antacids containing aluminium/magnesium (reduce absorption—separate by at least 2 hours), sedating antihistamines and benzodiazepines (additive drowsiness)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct light. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.
