Ketoconazole (2% w/v) + Zinc pyrithione (1% w/v)
Dandruff (pityriasis capitis), seborrhoeic dermatitis of scalp, fungal infections of scalp caused by Malassezia
Ketoconazole is an imidazole antifungal that inhibits fungal ergosterol synthesis by blocking 14-alpha demethylase. This damages the fungal cell membrane, reducing Malassezia growth and relieving flaking and itching.
For external use only. Wet hair/scalp, apply sufficient shampoo to affected area, lather and leave on for 3–5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Typically use 2 times a week for 2–4 weeks for dandruff/seborrhoeic dermatitis, then once weekly or as advised for maintenance. Avoid contact with eyes and broken skin.
Mild burning or irritation, itching, dryness or oiliness of hair/scalp, redness, hair texture changes, hair fall (temporary), rash
For external use only. Avoid eyes; if contact occurs rinse with plenty of water. Stop use and consult a doctor if severe irritation, swelling, blistering or allergic reaction occurs. Use with caution on inflamed/broken skin. If symptoms persist or recur frequently, seek medical advice. Keep out of reach of children.
No major interactions expected with topical shampoo use. If using topical corticosteroids on scalp, taper steroid gradually when starting ketoconazole to avoid rebound dermatitis (as advised by doctor).
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep container tightly closed. Do not freeze.
