Movicol Liquid

Movicol Liquid contains Polyethylene Glycol (13.125gm) + Sodium Chloride (350.7mg) + Sodium Bicarbonate (178.5mg) + Potassium Chloride (46.6mg) and is used for this medicine is used. Prescription required.

This medicine is used in the treatment of constipation, bowel preparation, nutritional deficiency, dietary supplementation, acidity, heartburn, indigestion and gas and bloating.

This medicine combines 4 active ingredients: Polyethylene Glycol, Sodium, Sodium Bicarbonate and Potassium. Polyethylene Glycol softens the stool and encourages the bowel to move, making it easier to pass. Sodium supplies a vitamin, mineral or nutrient that your diet may not be providing in sufficient amount. Sodium Bicarbonate neutralises or reduces stomach acid, giving quick relief from burning and indigestion. Potassium supplies a vitamin, mineral or nutrient that your diet may not be providing in sufficient amount.

Shake the bottle well before each dose and measure it with the cup, spoon or dropper supplied — a kitchen spoon is not an accurate measure. Take it at bedtime or as directed. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.

Drink plenty of water while taking any laxative, particularly the fibre-based ones — without it they can make constipation worse. Do not use stimulant laxatives daily over long periods without medical advice; the bowel becomes reliant on them. See a doctor if constipation is new and persistent in an adult over forty, or comes with blood, weight loss or severe pain. A supplement is not a substitute for a balanced diet or for treating the cause of a symptom. Iron makes stools black and can cause constipation — this is expected, but tell your doctor if it troubles you. Keep iron-containing products well out of reach of children; an overdose in a small child is a medical emergency. Check the labels of everything you take so you do not double up on the same nutrient. This is for short-term relief. See a doctor if you need it most days for more than a couple of weeks. Seek urgent care for chest pain that spreads to the arm or jaw, comes with sweating or breathlessness — do not assume it is acidity. Antacids interfere with the absorption of many other medicines. Take them at least two hours apart from anything else.

Laxatives can reduce the absorption of other medicines taken at the same time. Iron, calcium, zinc and magnesium reduce the absorption of thyroid tablets and several antibiotics — separate them by a few hours. Tea and coffee taken with iron reduce how much is absorbed; vitamin C increases it. Reduces the absorption of thyroid tablets, iron, and several antibiotics — separate them by at least two hours.

Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze. Once opened, use it within the period printed on the pack. Keep out of the reach of children.
