Ointment
Treatment of bacterial skin infections such as impetigo and secondary infected dermatoses; helps treat localized skin infections caused by susceptible bacteria (including Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes).
Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by blocking isoleucyl‑tRNA synthetase. This stops growth of susceptible bacteria and helps clear the skin infection.
For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer of ointment 2-3 times daily or as directed by a doctor; may be covered with a sterile gauze dressing. Use for the prescribed duration; avoid contact with eyes, mouth and inside the nose unless advised.
Burning sensation, stinging, itching, redness, skin irritation, rash, dryness at application site
For external use only. Do not apply to large areas, deep wounds, severe burns, or for prolonged periods unless advised, as this may increase risk of side effects or resistance. Stop and seek medical advice if severe irritation, allergy (swelling, hives), or no improvement occurs. Avoid use in known hypersensitivity to mupirocin or ointment base (polyethylene glycol); caution in severe kidney disease if large areas are treated (PEG absorption risk). Not for ophthalmic use.
No major systemic drug interactions expected with topical use. Avoid concurrent application with other topical products on the same site unless advised (may reduce effect/dilute).
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Keep tube tightly closed; protect from heat and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
