Monograph
Olopat OD Eye Drops is a prescription medicine containing Olopatadine. It is used for allergic rhinitis, hives, skin allergy, itching and allergic asthma. It belongs to the group of medicines called Antihistamine / leukotriene antagonist.
Wash your hands. The dose and how long you take it depend on what you are being treated for and how you respond. Do not take more, or for longer, than your doctor has advised.
The side effects seen most often with Olopat OD Eye Drops are drowsiness, dry mouth, headache and tiredness. Most are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if one persists or worries you.
Before you start, tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problem, whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, including supplements and ayurvedic preparations. Some of them can change how Olopat OD Eye Drops works.
Most side effects of Olopat OD are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
Wash your hands. Tilt your head back, pull the lower lid down to make a small pocket and squeeze one drop into it, then close the eye gently for a minute. Do not let the dropper tip touch your eye, your fingers or any surface. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.
Olopatadine blocks the chemical messengers your body releases during an allergic reaction, which relieves sneezing, a running nose, watering eyes and itching.
Older antihistamines cause marked drowsiness — do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this affects you. Tell your doctor promptly about any change in mood, sleep, agitation or unusual thoughts while taking montelukast; this is uncommon but recognised. This relieves the symptoms of an allergy; it does not treat the cause, and it is not a treatment for an acute asthma attack. Seek emergency care for swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, or difficulty breathing.
Apply it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the next application, skip the missed one — applying extra does not make up for it.
An overdose of this medicine can cause severe drowsiness, a fast heartbeat, confusion and, in children, agitation and fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Discard the bottle one month after you first open it, even if some is left. Keep out of the reach of children.
