Monograph
Tablet
Prevention of cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke) in patients at high risk; management of high cholesterol/dyslipidaemia with antiplatelet protection in patients with established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease or high-risk profiles (as prescribed).
Rosuvastatin is a statin that inhibits HMG‑CoA reductase, reducing cholesterol synthesis and lowering LDL while improving lipid profile. Aspirin irreversibly inhibits platelet COX‑1, reducing thromboxane A2 and preventing platelet aggregation, thereby lowering clot formation risk.
Tablet/capsule to be taken as advised by doctor, usually once daily at the same time. Swallow whole with water; do not crush/chew (especially if enteric-coated). Can be taken with or without food; take after food if gastric irritation occurs. Do not stop abruptly without medical advice.
Stomach pain/heartburn,nausea,indigestion,headache,dizziness,muscle pain/weakness,raised liver enzymes,easy bruising,bleeding
Not for patients with active liver disease or persistent unexplained elevation of transaminases. Aspirin may increase risk of gastric/intestinal bleeding—use caution in history of peptic ulcer, GI bleed, or with blood thinners. Statins can rarely cause myopathy/rhabdomyolysis—seek care for unexplained muscle pain, weakness, or dark urine; risk increases with interacting drugs and hypothyroidism. Use caution in kidney disease, uncontrolled hypothyroidism, heavy alcohol use, and elderly. Avoid in aspirin allergy, asthma with aspirin sensitivity, and bleeding disorders. Stop and seek urgent help for severe allergic reaction, black stools, vomiting blood, or signs of stroke/bleeding.
Anticoagulants/antiplatelets (warfarin, apixaban, rivaroxaban, clopidogrel) increased bleeding risk; NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac) increased GI bleeding and ibuprofen may reduce aspirin antiplatelet effect; other lipid-lowering drugs (gemfibrozil, fenofibrate, niacin) increased myopathy risk; cyclosporine, protease inhibitors, some hepatitis C antivirals may increase rosuvastatin levels; macrolides/azole antifungals may increase statin-related muscle risk; methotrexate increased toxicity; corticosteroids/SSRIs may increase bleeding risk.
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
