Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) 60000 IU
Treatment and prevention of vitamin D deficiency, vitamin D insufficiency, supportive therapy in osteoporosis/osteopenia, hypocalcaemia due to vitamin D deficiency
Cholecalciferol is converted in the body to active vitamin D (calcitriol). It increases absorption of calcium and phosphate from the intestine and supports bone mineralisation, helping correct deficiency-related bone and muscle symptoms.
Oral capsule/softgel. Take as prescribed by a doctor, commonly 1 capsule once weekly for 6–8 weeks for deficiency, then maintenance as advised. Swallow whole with water, preferably after food (fat-containing meal improves absorption).
Nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, headache, increased thirst, increased urination, weakness
Do not use in hypercalcaemia, hypervitaminosis D, or in patients with calcium-containing kidney stones unless advised. Use with caution in kidney disease, sarcoidosis/granulomatous disorders, and patients on high calcium intake. Excess use may cause vitamin D toxicity (high calcium) with symptoms like nausea, confusion, arrhythmias—seek medical help. Periodic monitoring of serum calcium, phosphate and 25(OH)D may be needed with long-term/high-dose use.
Thiazide diuretics (risk of hypercalcaemia), digoxin/other cardiac glycosides (arrhythmia risk with high calcium), anticonvulsants (phenytoin/phenobarbital) and rifampicin (reduce vitamin D effect), corticosteroids (reduce absorption/effect), cholestyramine/orlistat (reduce absorption), aluminium/magnesium antacids in renal impairment (risk of hypermagnesemia/aluminium toxicity)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
