Zinc pyrithione 1% w/v (anti-dandruff shampoo base)
Dandruff (pityriasis capitis), seborrhoeic dermatitis of scalp, itchy/flaky scalp, fungal-associated scalp scaling
Zinc pyrithione has antifungal and antibacterial activity against scalp microorganisms implicated in dandruff, especially Malassezia species. It reduces fungal load, inflammation, and abnormal scaling, thereby relieving flakes and itching.
For external use only. Wet hair and scalp, apply sufficient shampoo, massage into scalp to form lather, leave for 2–3 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Use 2–3 times weekly initially or as advised; reduce frequency once controlled. Avoid contact with eyes and broken skin.
Mild burning or stinging, scalp irritation, dryness, itching, redness, increased hair fall (temporary), allergic contact dermatitis (rare)
Stop use and consult a doctor if severe irritation, rash, swelling, or worsening occurs. Avoid eyes; rinse with plenty of water if contact occurs. Not to be ingested. Use with caution on very sensitive or broken/eczema-affected scalp. If dandruff persists beyond 4 weeks or is associated with severe redness/oozing, seek medical advice. Keep out of reach of children.
No clinically significant systemic drug interactions expected (topical shampoo). Avoid using multiple medicated scalp products simultaneously unless advised, as it may increase irritation.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from direct sunlight. Keep the cap tightly closed.
