Type 2 diabetes mellitus (non-insulin-dependent diabetes) to help control blood glucose, usually along with diet and exercise; may be used alone or with other antidiabetic medicines as prescribed.

Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea antidiabetic that stimulates the pancreas (beta cells) to release insulin. It also improves the body's response to insulin, thereby lowering blood sugar levels.

Tablet: Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily with breakfast or the first main meal. Swallow with water; do not skip meals after taking it. Regularly monitor blood glucose; dose adjustments may be needed based on response.

Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar), dizziness, headache, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, weight gain, skin rash

Risk of hypoglycaemia—more likely with missed meals, excessive exercise, alcohol intake, elderly patients, or kidney/liver impairment. Use with caution in renal or hepatic disease; dose adjustment may be required. Avoid driving/operating machinery if symptoms of low sugar occur. Inform doctor about any allergy to sulfonylureas/sulfonamides. Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Other antidiabetics/insulin (increased hypoglycaemia risk), alcohol (may cause hypo/hyperglycaemia), beta-blockers (may mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), corticosteroids (raise glucose), thiazide/loop diuretics (raise glucose), rifampicin (may reduce effect), azole antifungals like fluconazole/miconazole (may increase effect), NSAIDs/salicylates (may increase hypoglycaemia risk), ACE inhibitors (may increase hypoglycaemia risk)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
