Type 2 diabetes mellitus (as an adjunct to diet and exercise) to improve glycaemic control; may be used alone or in combination with other antidiabetic medicines as prescribed.
Teneligliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases levels of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP). This enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion and reduces glucagon release, thereby lowering blood glucose with a low risk of hypoglycaemia when used alone.
Oral tablet. Take as directed by the physician, usually once daily, with or without food, at the same time each day. Swallow whole with water; do not stop or change dose without medical advice.
Headache, nasopharyngitis/common cold symptoms, dizziness, nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, abdominal discomfort, mild skin rash
Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Use with caution in patients with pancreatitis history; stop and seek care if severe persistent abdominal pain occurs. Monitor for hypoglycaemia when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas (dose adjustment may be needed). Use caution in renal or hepatic impairment as per doctor advice; periodic monitoring of blood glucose and HbA1c recommended. Rare serious hypersensitivity/skin reactions can occur; discontinue if suspected.
Insulin and sulfonylureas (increased risk of hypoglycaemia), other antidiabetics (additive glucose lowering), strong CYP3A4/P-gp inhibitors or inducers may alter levels (clinical relevance usually limited); discuss all medicines including herbal supplements with doctor.
