Levothyroxine is a synthetic form of thyroxine (T4), a natural thyroid hormone. It is converted in the body to the active hormone T3 and helps regulate metabolism, energy levels, heart rate and body temperature, correcting low thyroid hormone levels.
Oral tablet. Take once daily on an empty stomach, preferably in the morning 30–60 minutes before breakfast with water. Take at the same time each day; avoid taking with calcium/iron/antacids—keep a 4-hour gap. Dose is individualized based on TSH and clinical response.
