Monograph
Lotion
Treatment of hyperkeratotic and scaly skin conditions such as psoriasis (scalp/body), seborrheic dermatitis/dandruff, ichthyosis, keratosis pilaris, corns and calluses; helps remove thickened skin and scales.
Salicylic acid is a keratolytic agent that softens and dissolves the keratin holding dead skin cells together. This promotes shedding of scales, reduces thickening, and improves penetration of other topical medicines if used alongside them.
For external use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected area once or twice daily as advised by a doctor. On scalp, apply to affected areas, leave on for the prescribed time and wash off; avoid contact with eyes, mouth, nostrils and broken skin. Wash hands after use unless treating hands.
Skin irritation, burning or stinging, redness, dryness, peeling, itching
Avoid use on open wounds, severely inflamed skin, or large body areas unless prescribed. Do not use in children without medical advice; risk of salicylate toxicity increases with extensive application/occlusion. Stop and seek medical help if severe irritation, swelling, blistering, or signs of allergy occur. Avoid occlusive dressings unless instructed. Use caution in patients with diabetes or poor circulation when treating corns/calluses. If accidentally swallowed or applied excessively, seek medical attention.
Additive irritation with other topical keratolytics/exfoliants (retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, AHA/BHA products); may increase absorption/irritation with topical corticosteroids or other medicated shampoos/lotions when used together; avoid combining on same area unless advised.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from heat and direct light. Keep container tightly closed and out of reach of children.
