Treatment and prevention of bleeding due to hyperfibrinolysis; heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia); bleeding after dental extraction in haemophilia; postoperative or traumatic bleeding episodes (as prescribed).

Tranexamic acid is an antifibrinolytic that blocks the binding of plasminogen/plasmin to fibrin, preventing breakdown of blood clots. This stabilizes clots and reduces excessive bleeding.

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed by the doctor; may be taken with or without food (take with food if stomach upset occurs). Swallow with water; do not exceed the recommended dose and duration.

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, back pain, nasal congestion

Use with caution in patients with history/risk of blood clots (DVT/PE), stroke, thrombophilia, or on hormonal contraception. Contraindicated in active thromboembolic disease and subarachnoid haemorrhage. Dose adjustment may be needed in kidney disease. Seek urgent care for visual disturbances, chest pain, shortness of breath, or leg swelling. Not for use in hematuria from upper urinary tract due to risk of ureteric obstruction (clots).

Combined oral contraceptives/estrogen therapy (increased thrombosis risk), Factor IX complex concentrates or anti-inhibitor coagulant complex (risk of thrombosis), thrombolytics (antagonistic effect), anticoagulants/antiplatelets (may affect bleeding control), tretinoin (reported thrombosis risk)

Store at room temperature below 25°C, protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
