Monograph
Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) 60000 IU per 5 ml (nano oral solution/spray)
Treatment and prevention of vitamin D deficiency, vitamin D insufficiency, adjunct in calcium deficiency and bone disorders such as osteomalacia/osteoporosis (as prescribed)
Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) is converted in the body to active vitamin D, which increases intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphate. This helps maintain normal blood calcium levels and supports bone mineralization and muscle function.
Oral nano solution. Use as directed by physician; commonly 5 ml (60,000 IU) once weekly for 6–8 weeks, then maintenance as advised. May be taken with or after food (preferably with a meal containing fat). Shake well if labeled; measure with provided cup/dropper.
Nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, headache, weakness, increased thirst, increased urination
Do not exceed prescribed dose; overdose can cause hypercalcemia. Use with caution in kidney disease, history of kidney stones, hyperparathyroidism, sarcoidosis or other granulomatous diseases. Avoid concurrent high-dose calcium/vitamin D unless advised. Seek medical help if symptoms of high calcium occur (persistent vomiting, confusion, severe constipation, excessive thirst/urination).
Thiazide diuretics (risk of hypercalcemia), digoxin/cardiac glycosides (arrhythmia risk with hypercalcemia), anticonvulsants like phenytoin/phenobarbital/carbamazepine (reduced vitamin D effect), rifampicin (reduced effect), corticosteroids (reduced effect), cholestyramine/orlistat (reduced absorption), aluminum/magnesium antacids in renal impairment (risk of toxicity)
