Treatment of acid peptic disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, gastritis, and peptic ulcer disease; used for relief of heartburn and acid reflux symptoms. May be used as part of H. pylori eradication regimens when prescribed.

Vonoprazan is a potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB) that directly inhibits the gastric H+/K+ ATPase (proton pump) in parietal cells. It provides strong and sustained suppression of stomach acid, often with rapid onset compared with conventional PPIs.

Take by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually once daily. Can be taken with or without food; swallow tablet whole with water. Duration depends on the condition (e.g., reflux/ulcer); do not stop early without medical advice.

Diarrhea, constipation, nausea, abdominal pain, flatulence, headache, dizziness, rash

Use with caution in severe liver disease. Long-term acid suppression may increase risk of low magnesium/Vit B12 deficiency, bone fractures, and gastrointestinal infections; consult doctor if therapy is prolonged. Seek medical attention for alarm symptoms (vomiting blood, black stools, unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting, trouble swallowing). May mask symptoms of gastric malignancy—evaluate persistent/recurrent symptoms. Not recommended for self-medication.

May affect absorption of drugs requiring an acidic gastric pH (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, erlotinib, atazanavir/nelfinavir—avoid with some HIV protease inhibitors). Caution with digoxin and other narrow-therapeutic-index medicines; inform doctor of all medicines. Potential interaction considerations similar to strong acid suppressants.

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
