Treatment of erectile dysfunction (impotence) in adult men; helps achieve and maintain an erection during sexual stimulation

Sildenafil is a phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitor. It increases cGMP levels in penile tissue by enhancing the effect of nitric oxide, leading to relaxation of smooth muscles and increased blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation.

Oral tablet. Take as advised by doctor, typically 30–60 minutes before sexual activity; can be taken up to 4 hours before. Swallow with water. Avoid heavy/fatty meals as they may delay effect. Do not take more than once in 24 hours.

Not for use in women or children. Do not use with nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin) or guanylate cyclase stimulators (riociguat) due to severe hypotension risk. Use with caution in heart disease, recent heart attack/stroke, uncontrolled hypertension/hypotension, severe liver/kidney impairment. Seek urgent help for chest pain, sudden vision/hearing loss, or erection lasting >4 hours (priapism). May cause dizziness—avoid driving if affected. Caution in anatomical penile deformity or conditions predisposing to priapism (e.g., sickle cell anemia).
