Glimepiride (1mg) + Metformin (500mg)
Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, as an adjunct to diet and exercise to help control blood sugar; may be used alone or with other antidiabetic medicines as prescribed.
Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea antidiabetic. It lowers blood glucose mainly by stimulating insulin release from pancreatic beta cells and may also improve peripheral insulin sensitivity.
Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily with breakfast or the first main meal; swallow whole with water. Do not skip meals; monitor blood glucose regularly and follow diet/exercise advice.
Hypoglycaemia, dizziness, headache, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, weight gain, skin rash
Can cause hypoglycaemia (risk higher with missed meals, excessive exercise, alcohol, elderly, kidney/liver impairment); use with caution in renal or hepatic disease; avoid driving/operating machinery if symptoms of low sugar occur. Inform doctor about G6PD deficiency (risk of haemolysis with sulfonylureas). Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Discuss if you are fasting or have major surgery/acute illness; dose adjustments may be needed.
