Side Effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, metallic taste, headache, vitamin B12 deficiency (with long-term use)
Warnings & Precautions
Risk of lactic acidosis (rare but serious)—seek urgent care if deep/rapid breathing, severe weakness, muscle pain, abdominal pain, or drowsiness occurs. Use with caution in kidney impairment; dose adjustment/avoid may be needed based on eGFR. Temporarily stop before/after iodinated contrast procedures and major surgery as advised.
