Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as urinary tract infections (UTI), typhoid fever (enteric fever), acute bronchitis and exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, pharyngitis/tonsillitis, sinusitis, otitis media, and uncomplicated gonorrhoea (as prescribed).

Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to bacterial cell death.

Take as prescribed by the doctor. Swallow the tablet with water; can be taken with or without food (take with food if stomach upset occurs). Complete the full course even if you feel better; do not skip doses.

Use only for bacterial infections. Inform doctor if you have allergy to cephalosporins/penicillins, history of severe allergy, kidney disease, or colitis/antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Stop and seek medical help if severe diarrhoea, blood in stools, rash, swelling, or breathing difficulty occurs. Dose adjustment may be needed in renal impairment. May reduce reliability of some lab tests (e.g., urine glucose tests).

Warfarin/other anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk/INR), probenecid (may increase cefixime levels), live bacterial vaccines such as oral typhoid vaccine (reduced vaccine effect), antacids containing aluminium/magnesium (may reduce absorption—separate dosing).

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
