Composition of Adaferin Gel

Adaferin Gel contains Adapalene (0.1% w/w). It belongs to the Topical retinoid (retinoid-like agent) class of medicines.

How Adaferin Gel works

Adapalene is a topical retinoid that normalizes skin cell turnover and reduces blockage of hair follicles (comedones). It also has anti-inflammatory effects, helping reduce redness and swelling in acne lesions.

How to take Adaferin Gel

For external use only. Apply a thin film to clean, dry affected areas once daily (preferably at night) or as directed by a doctor. Avoid eyes, lips, nostrils and broken/eczema-affected skin; wash hands after application. Use moisturizer and sunscreen in the daytime; acne may worsen initially and improvement usually takes 8–12 weeks.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Adaferin Gel, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe irritation when far too much cream is applied; an oral retinoid taken in excess can cause headache, vomiting and liver injury. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Adaferin Gel

Most side effects of Adaferin are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• itching
• increased sun sensitivity

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

May cause irritation especially in the first weeks; reduce frequency or stop temporarily if severe. Avoid excessive sun/UV exposure; use sunscreen. Do not apply on cuts, sunburn, or eczematous skin. Avoid waxing/abrasive cleansers and astringents on treated areas. Seek medical advice if severe swelling, blistering, or allergic reaction occurs.

Do not take Adaferin if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Oral retinoids are absolutely contraindicated in pregnancy and in anyone who might become pregnant without a pregnancy prevention programme. Topical retinoids are avoided in pregnancy.

Interactions with other medicines

Increased irritation with other topical acne products (benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, sulfur/resorcinol), alcohol-based/astringent cosmetics, exfoliants; if used with benzoyl peroxide, consider separate timing (e.g., benzoyl peroxide morning, adapalene night) to reduce irritation.

How to store Adaferin Gel

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from heat and light. Keep tube tightly closed and out of reach of children.

Avoid getting it in your eyes or mouth. If this happens, rinse with water immediately. Avoid getting any cosmetic procedures done without consulting your doctor first. Do not use on cuts, abrasions, sunburnt, or eczema skin. This medicine is not recommended for children under 12 years. It is not suitable for severe acne involving large body areas. If severe redness/peeling occurs, reduce frequency or stop and consult your doctor.
