How Advent 228.5 mg Syrup works

Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that kills bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects amoxicillin from bacterial enzymes, extending its spectrum against resistant organisms.

How to take Advent 228.5 mg Syrup

Oral suspension/syrup: take exactly as prescribed. Usually given with food to reduce stomach upset. Shake well before use, measure with a dosing syringe/cup, and complete the full course even if you feel better. Follow label instructions for reconstitution if supplied as dry syrup.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, severe loose motions and, rarely, fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Warnings and precautions

Prescription antibiotic—use only for bacterial infections. Do not use if allergic to penicillins/cephalosporins or if there was prior amoxicillin-clavulanate–associated jaundice/hepatitis. Use with caution in liver disease, kidney impairment (dose adjustment may be needed), history of severe allergy/asthma. Stop and seek medical help for severe rash, breathing difficulty, or persistent/watery/bloody diarrhoea. Prolonged use may cause superinfection.

Do not take Advent if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for anyone with a known penicillin allergy.

Interactions with other medicines

Warfarin/other anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk/INR), methotrexate (increased toxicity), allopurinol (increased rash risk), probenecid (increases amoxicillin levels), mycophenolate mofetil (reduced levels), oral contraceptives (possible reduced efficacy—use backup if advised)

How to store Advent 228.5 mg Syrup

Store as per pack label. If reconstituted, keep tightly closed; commonly stored refrigerated (2–8°C) and used within 7–10 days; do not freeze. Protect from heat, light and moisture.

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection. Your child may have a bitter taste in the mouth after the intake of Advent 228.5mg Dry Syrup. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Advent 228.5mg Dry Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. You must also never share your child’s medicine with anyone else even if they show similar symptoms. Do not give Advent 228.5mg Dry Syrup to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses. Never save medicine for future illnesses. It cannot be said whether the same medicine will work on future infections. Check ‘expiry’ before giving Advent 228.5mg Dry Syrup to your child. Immediately discard all the expired medicines. Stop Advent 228.5mg Dry Syrup immediately if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Report to the doctor without any delay.
