Alprax 0.5 Tablet contains Alprazolam (0.5mg) + Melatonin (3mg). It belongs to the Benzodiazepine class of medicines.

Warnings and precautions

May cause sedation, impaired concentration and slowed reactions—avoid driving or operating machinery. Risk of dependence, tolerance and withdrawal; do not use longer than prescribed and do not stop abruptly. Use caution in elderly, depression/suicidal thoughts, history of substance misuse, and in liver/renal impairment. Can cause respiratory depression, especially with opioids or other CNS depressants. Not recommended in severe respiratory insufficiency, sleep apnoea, acute narrow-angle glaucoma; use only on prescription.

Do not take Alprax if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with severe breathing problems, sleep apnoea, or severe liver disease. Not for anyone with a history of dependence, except under specialist supervision.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol and other CNS depressants (opioids, antihistamines, antipsychotics, sedatives) increase sedation/respiratory depression; CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin/erythromycin, ritonavir, grapefruit juice) increase alprazolam levels; CYP3A4 inducers (carbamazepine, phenytoin, rifampicin, St John’s wort) reduce effect; additive effects with antidepressants and anticonvulsants

Alprax Z 0.5 mg/3 mg Tablet is prescribed for the treatment of insomnia. It can take a week or two after starting this treatment before the effect begins to build up, and 4-6 weeks before you feel the full benefit. Do not stop taking it after a week or two, feeling it is not helping. Do not stop taking Alprax Z 0.5 mg/3 mg Tablet unless your doctor tells you to do so. Stopping treatment suddenly can cause problems and your doctor will probably want you to reduce your dose gradually when this becomes necessary. Try to keep your regular appointments with your doctor. This is so your doctor can check on your progress. Inform your doctor if you have liver disease.
