How Alprax 1 Tablet works

Warnings and precautions

Prescription-only benzodiazepine; can cause dependence, abuse and withdrawal—use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration. Do not stop suddenly (risk of withdrawal, rebound anxiety, seizures). May cause sedation and psychomotor impairment—avoid driving/operating machinery. Use with caution in elderly, depression/suicidality, history of substance use disorder, hepatic impairment, respiratory disease/sleep apnea. Risk of severe sedation/respiratory depression when combined with opioids, alcohol or other CNS depressants.

Do not take Alprax if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with severe breathing problems, sleep apnoea, or severe liver disease. Not for anyone with a history of dependence, except under specialist supervision.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol and other CNS depressants (opioids, sedating antihistamines, antipsychotics) increase sedation/respiratory depression; CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin/erythromycin, ritonavir, grapefruit juice) can increase alprazolam levels; CYP3A4 inducers (carbamazepine, phenytoin, rifampicin, St John’s wort) can reduce effect; additive hypotension/sedation with other anxiolytics/sleeping pills

Store at or below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

The addiction/habit-forming potential of this medicine is very high. Take it only as per the dose and duration advised by your doctor. Alprax 1mg Tablet SR may cause dizziness. Do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. Avoid consuming alcohol, as it may increase dizziness and drowsiness. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding. Do not stop taking medication suddenly without talking to your doctor, as that may lead to nausea, anxiety, agitation, flu-like symptoms, sweating, tremors, and confusion.
