Amikacin 250 mg (as amikacin sulfate) injection (vial)
Treatment of serious bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including complicated urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, septicemia, and infections in hospitalized patients (often in combination with other antibiotics).
Amikacin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit of bacteria. It inhibits protein synthesis and causes production of faulty proteins, leading to bacterial cell death (bactericidal).
For intravenous infusion or intramuscular injection only; to be administered by a healthcare professional. Dose and duration depend on infection severity, age, weight, kidney function and culture sensitivity; maintain adequate hydration and complete the prescribed course.

Prescription-only injectable antibiotic. Risk of nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity—monitor kidney function and hearing, especially with prolonged therapy, high doses, dehydration, elderly, or pre-existing renal impairment. Can cause neuromuscular blockade/respiratory depression (higher risk in myasthenia gravis, Parkinsonism, or with anesthetics/neuromuscular blockers). Adjust dose in renal impairment; therapeutic drug monitoring may be required. Use only for proven/suspected susceptible bacterial infections; not effective for viral infections.
