Ampilox Capsule is used for treatment of Bacterial infections.
Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated August 2026
Ampilox Capsule contains Ampicillin (250mg) + Dicloxacillin (250mg).
Treatment of Bacterial infections
Ampilox Capsule is a combination of ampicillin and dicloxacillin. This works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Ampicillin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell death. Dicloxacillin is resistant to bacterial enzymes that inactivate other penicillins and strengthens the action against resistant bacteria. Together, they provide coverage against a wide range of bacterial infections.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Ampilox Capsule is to be taken on an empty stomach.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
If you miss a dose of Ampilox Capsule, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Taking more Ampilox than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Ampilox are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about every medicine you take, including over-the-counter products, vitamins and herbal or ayurvedic preparations, before starting Ampilox. Some combinations can change how Ampilox works or raise the chance of side effects.
Store Ampilox below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the pack tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date printed on the pack.
You have been prescribed this combination medicine to treat bacterial infections. Finish the prescribed course, even if you start to feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection come back and harder to treat. Diarrhea may occur as a side effect. Taking probiotics along with Ampilox Capsule may help. Talk to your doctor if you notice bloody stools or develop abdominal cramps. Take it with food and plenty of fluids to avoid an upset stomach. Stop taking Ampilox Capsule and inform your doctor immediately if you develop an itchy rash, swelling of the face, throat or tongue or breathing difficulties while taking it.
