Ampilox-LB Capsule is a combination of three medicines: Ampicillin, Dicloxacillin, and Lactobacillus. Ampicillin and Dicloxacillin are antibiotics which work by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering that is essential for the survival of bacteria in the human body. Together, they eradicate your infection effectively. Lactobacillus is a live microorganism which restores the balance of good bacteria in the intestine that may get upset with antibiotic use or due to intestinal infections.
How to take Ampilox-Lb Capsule
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Ampilox-LB Capsule may be taken with or without food.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
Missed dose and overdose
If you miss a dose
If you miss a dose of Ampilox-LB Capsule, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
If you take too much
An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, severe loose motions and, rarely, fits. It may cause bloating and loose motions. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Ampilox-Lb are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:

Warnings and precautions
Finish the whole course even after you feel better. Stopping early lets the strongest bacteria survive, and they are the ones that come back resistant. Stop and seek emergency care for swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, or a widespread rash — a penicillin allergy can be serious. Tell every doctor and pharmacist if you have ever reacted to penicillin. Tell your doctor if loose motions become severe or watery, or continue after the course — this needs attention rather than an anti-diarrhoeal. Antibiotics do not work against colds, flu or most sore throats, which are caused by viruses. Loose motions with high fever, blood in the stool or severe abdominal pain need a doctor, not a home remedy. Oral rehydration salts and fluids matter more than any medicine when you have loose motions — dehydration is the real danger, especially in children and older people. Take a probiotic a couple of hours apart from an antibiotic so the antibiotic does not simply kill it. Do not use an anti-motility medicine such as loperamide if you have a fever or blood in the stool.
Do not take Ampilox-Lb if
Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for anyone with a known penicillin allergy. Probiotics are used with caution in people whose immune system is significantly suppressed.
Interactions with other medicines
May reduce the reliability of the oral contraceptive pill if you have vomiting or loose motions — use additional precautions during the course. Tell your doctor if you take methotrexate or a blood thinner. Antibiotics reduce the effect of probiotics taken at the same time.
How to store Ampilox-Lb Capsule
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Some probiotic preparations ask to be refrigerated — follow the pack. Keep out of the reach of children.

- If you are taking any contraceptive 'pill' at the same time as this antibiotic, the effectiveness of the 'pill' can be reduced if you have a bout of being sick (vomiting) which lasts for more than 24 hours.
- In such a case, ask your doctor for additional contraceptive precautions.
- Ampilox-LB Capsule can reduce the effectiveness of oral typhoid vaccine.
- If you are due to have any vaccinations, make sure the person treating you knows that you are taking this antibiotic.
