Composition of Asthakind Syrup

Asthakind Syrup contains Ambroxol (7.5mg) + Guaifenesin (12.5mg) + Terbutaline (0.25mg). It belongs to the Beta-2 agonist + Mucolytic + Expectorant class of medicines.

How Asthakind Syrup works

Terbutaline is a beta-2 bronchodilator that relaxes airway smooth muscles to ease breathing. Bromhexine acts as a mucolytic to thin and loosen thick mucus, while guaiphenesin helps expectoration. Menthol provides a soothing effect and helps relieve throat/chest irritation.

How to take Asthakind Syrup

Take by mouth using a measuring cup/spoon. Usually taken 2-3 times daily as advised by the doctor; may be taken with or without food. Shake well before use and drink adequate fluids to help loosen mucus.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Do not panic. Unless your doctor has advised a specific regimen for your child, you can give the missed dose as soon as you remember it. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not give a double dose and follow the prescribed dosing schedule.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, severe drowsiness, a racing heart and, with codeine, dangerously slow breathing. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Asthakind are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Use with caution in heart disease, hypertension, arrhythmias, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, glaucoma, and seizure disorders. Do not exceed recommended dose; may cause tremor and fast heartbeat. Seek medical help if breathing worsens, fever persists, or cough lasts >7 days. Use in children only on medical advice.

Do not take Asthakind if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Codeine-containing preparations are not for children, or for anyone with breathing difficulty.

Interactions with other medicines

Beta-blockers (may reduce bronchodilation), MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants (may increase cardiovascular effects), other sympathomimetics (additive effects), diuretics/corticosteroids/theophylline (may increase risk of low potassium and cardiac effects), antidiabetic medicines (may need monitoring)

Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep bottle tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children.

Asthakind-P Drops may make your child feel sleepy. Encourage your child to be careful while engaging in physical activities. Avoid sharing your child’s medication with other children, even if they have similar symptoms. Each child is unique, and the dosage and frequency of medicine are determined by factors such as body weight, age, and medical condition. Stop Asthakind-P Drops and immediately report to the doctor if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulties. Wipe and disinfect surfaces after sneezing or coughing to prevent allergies. Ensure your child drinks plenty of fluids to help thin and clear mucus from the lungs. Keep your child away from caffeinated drinks and avoid spicy or fried foods. All these can trigger coughing. Make your child gargle with warm salt water and ensure your child takes enough rest.
