Az3 250 mg Tablet contains Azithromycin (250mg). It belongs to the Macrolide antibiotic class of medicines.

How Az3 250 mg Tablet works

Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. This stops growth of susceptible bacteria and helps clear the infection.

How to take Az3 250 mg Tablet

Take by mouth exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Usually taken once daily; may be taken with or without food (take with food if stomach upset occurs). Swallow with water and complete the full course even if you feel better.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of AZ3 250mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, hearing disturbance and heart rhythm changes. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Warnings and precautions

Can prolong QT interval/trigger arrhythmias; caution in patients with heart rhythm problems, low potassium/magnesium, elderly, or with QT-prolonging medicines. Diarrhoea may indicate C. difficile—seek medical advice if severe/persistent. Dose adjustment/monitoring may be needed in severe renal impairment.

Do not take Az3 if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for anyone with a known allergy to macrolide antibiotics, or with certain heart rhythm disorders.

Interactions with other medicines

Antacids containing aluminium/magnesium (reduce absorption; separate dosing), warfarin/other anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk/INR changes), QT-prolonging drugs (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol, quinolones, some antipsychotics), digoxin (increased levels), cyclosporine (increased levels), ergot derivatives (avoid), nelfinavir (increased azithromycin exposure)

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), in a dry place away from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.

Take AZ3 250mg Tablet exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if you start feeling better. Stopping AZ3 250mg Tablet early may allow the infection to return and become harder to treat. Take AZ3 250mg Tablet at the same time each day to maintain consistent antibiotic levels in the body. Avoid taking antacids within 2 hours before or after taking AZ3 250mg Tablet, as they may affect absorption. Take AZ3 250mg Tablet with food, or it may cause stomach upset. Diarrhea may occur while taking AZ3 250mg Tablet; stay hydrated and contact your doctor if it becomes severe. Stop taking AZ3 250mg Tablet and seek immediate medical help if you develop rash, swelling of the face or throat, or difficulty breathing. Inform your doctor if you have liver disease or a history of heart rhythm problems before taking AZ3 250mg Tablet. Report symptoms such as palpitations, fainting, or severe dizziness promptly to your doctor. Consult your doctor if symptoms do not improve within a few days or if they worsen.
