Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated September 2026
Azithral 100 Liquid contains Azithromycin (20mg/ml).
Treatment of Bacterial infections
Azithral 100 Liquid is an antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It binds to the bacterial ribosome and prevents the production of essential proteins required for bacterial growth and survival, thereby stopping the infection from spreading.
Take the missed dose of Azithral as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.
Taking more Azithral than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Azithral are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
| Kidney | Kidney CAUTION |
|---|---|
| Liver | Liver CAUTION |
| Habit forming | No |
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about every medicine you take, including over-the-counter products, vitamins and herbal or ayurvedic preparations, before starting Azithral. Some combinations can change how Azithral works or raise the chance of side effects.
Store Azithral below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the pack tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date printed on the pack.
Take Azithral 100 Liquid exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if you start feeling better. Stopping Azithral 100 Liquid early may allow the infection to return and become harder to treat. Take Azithral 100 Liquid at the same time each day to maintain consistent antibiotic levels in the body. Avoid taking antacids within 2 hours before or after taking Azithral 100 Liquid, as they may affect absorption. Take Azithral 100 Liquid with food, or it may cause stomach upset. Diarrhea may occur while taking Azithral 100 Liquid; stay hydrated and contact your doctor if it becomes severe. Stop taking Azithral 100 Liquid and seek immediate medical help if you develop rash, swelling of the face or throat, or difficulty breathing. Inform your doctor if you have liver disease or a history of heart rhythm problems before taking Azithral 100 Liquid. Report symptoms such as palpitations, fainting, or severe dizziness promptly to your doctor. Consult your doctor if symptoms do not improve within a few days or if they worsen.
