Benzac Ac Gel Wash 100 ml contains Benzoyl Peroxide (5% w/w). It belongs to the Topical antibacterial and keratolytic (benzoyl peroxide) class of medicines.

How Benzac Ac Gel Wash 100 ml works

Benzoyl peroxide releases oxygen in the skin, which kills acne-causing bacteria (Cutibacterium acnes). It also has mild keratolytic and comedolytic action, helping remove dead skin cells and reduce blocked pores and inflammation.

How to take Benzac Ac Gel Wash 100 ml

For external use only. Wet the affected area, apply a small amount of gel wash, gently lather for 10–20 seconds, then rinse thoroughly and pat dry. Start once daily and increase to twice daily if tolerated or as directed by a dermatologist. Avoid contact with eyes, lips, and inside of nose; wash hands after use.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Benzac Gel AC Gel Wash, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe irritation when far too much cream is applied; an oral retinoid taken in excess can cause headache, vomiting and liver injury. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Benzac Ac are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

May cause skin irritation especially at the start; reduce frequency or discontinue if severe irritation, swelling, blistering, or allergic reaction occurs. Avoid use on broken/eczema-affected skin unless advised. Can bleach hair and coloured fabrics. Use sunscreen and limit sun/UV exposure. Keep away from eyes and mucous membranes; rinse well if contact occurs. If using other acne products (retinoids, salicylic acid, AHA/BHA), start slowly to reduce irritation.

Do not take Benzac Ac if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Oral retinoids are absolutely contraindicated in pregnancy and in anyone who might become pregnant without a pregnancy prevention programme. Topical retinoids are avoided in pregnancy.

Interactions with other medicines

Topical retinoids (tretinoin/adapalene), salicylic acid, glycolic acid/AHAs, sulfur/resorcinol products, alcohol-based astringents or scrubs (increased irritation); Dapsone gel (may cause temporary yellow/orange discoloration of skin/hair when used together)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Keep container tightly closed and protect from heat and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.

Do a small test on one or two spots for the first 3 days. Start once daily and increase gradually only if needed and tolerated. Avoid using other topical acne products on the same area unless your doctor advises. Reduce to once daily or every other day if your skin becomes very dry or irritated.
