How Betnovate S Ointment works

BETnovate - S Ointment is a combination of two medicines: Betamethasone and Salicylic Acid which treat eczema and psoriasis. Betamethasone is a steroid that blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen, and itchy. Salicylic Acid is a keratolytic medicine that breaks down keratin clumps, removes dead skin cells, and softens the skin. It also enhances the absorption of Betamethasone into the skin.

How to take Betnovate S Ointment

This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and gently massage the ointment.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of BETnovate - S Ointment, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule.

If you take too much

Taking more Betnovate S than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Most side effects of Betnovate S are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

How to store Betnovate S Ointment

Store Betnovate S below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the pack tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date printed on the pack.

Expert advice for Betnovate S Ointment

It is advisable to apply it once a day. For best effect, leave it on during the day if you have applied it in the morning or overnight if you have used it in the evening. Apply to the affected areas as a thin film two or three times daily or as advised by your doctor. After you have applied BETnovate - S Ointment, remember to wash your hands (unless your hands are in the treated area). Do not cover the area being treated with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by the doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects. If you are using a moisturizer along with this preparation, apply the moisturizer first. Then, wait 10-15 minutes before applying the BETnovate - S Ointment. Do not apply it to open wounds and cuts. Your skin may become more sensitive to sunlight than normal while you are using BETnovate - S Ointment. Try to avoid sitting out in the sun and do not use sunbeds.
