How Cartiquin Tablet works

Cartiquin 200mg Tablet is a Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatoid Drug (DMARD). It works by suppressing the overactivity of the immune system that causes inflammation (swelling) and pain in the joints. This slows the progression of the underlying disease. It has also been suggested that hydroxychloroquine may increase insulin sensitivity and improve beta-cell function, thereby improving glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

How to take Cartiquin Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Cartiquin 200mg Tablet should be taken with or after food.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Cartiquin 200mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause dangerous heart rhythm disturbance, fits and coma. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Cartiquin are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Do not take Cartiquin if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Several are not suitable in pregnancy or in G6PD deficiency — your doctor will choose accordingly.

Interactions with other medicines

Tell your doctor about heart medicines, anti-epileptics and other antimalarials.

How to store Cartiquin Tablet

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Consider taking Cartiquin 200mg Tablet with food to avoid an upset stomach. It can take 8-12 weeks for Cartiquin 200mg Tablet to work. Keep taking it as prescribed. Do not take medicines that neutralise stomach acids (antacids) four hours before and after taking Cartiquin 200mg Tablet as they can stop the medicine from being absorbed properly from your gut. Have regular eye tests done while taking this medicine. Stop taking it and inform your doctor immediately if you notice any changes in your vision. It can lower the blood glucose level. Inform your doctor if you experience hypoglycemia symptoms such as cold sweats, cool, pale skin, tremor, and anxious feelings.
