Doxbrin 25 mg Capsule contains Doxepin 25 mg (as doxepin hydrochloride) capsule. It belongs to the Tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) class of medicines.

How Doxbrin 25 mg Capsule works

Doxepin is a tricyclic antidepressant that increases the levels of neurotransmitters like serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain to improve mood and reduce anxiety. It also has strong antihistamine (H1-blocking) activity which can cause sedation.

How to take Doxbrin 25 mg Capsule

Take by mouth as advised by the doctor, usually once daily (often at bedtime due to drowsiness) or in divided doses. Can be taken with or without food; swallow capsule whole with water. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause fits, dangerous heart rhythm disturbance and coma, and is particularly dangerous with the older tricyclic medicines. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Warnings and precautions

May cause sedation—avoid driving/operating machinery. Risk of suicidal thoughts especially in young adults early in treatment; monitor mood changes. Use caution in glaucoma, urinary retention/prostatic hypertrophy, heart disease/arrhythmias, seizures, liver impairment, and elderly (falls/confusion). Do not use with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping an MAOI. Taper gradually to discontinue. Seek urgent care for severe allergic reaction, irregular heartbeat, fainting, or serotonin syndrome symptoms.

Do not take Doxbrin if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Must not be combined with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor, or started within the gap your doctor specifies after one.

Interactions with other medicines

MAO inhibitors (contraindicated), other antidepressants/SSRIs/SNRIs (serotonin syndrome risk), alcohol and other CNS depressants (increased sedation), anticholinergics (additive side effects), QT-prolonging drugs/antiarrhythmics (arrhythmia risk), cimetidine (may increase levels), tramadol/linezolid/methylene blue (serotonin syndrome risk)

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from light and moisture. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.
