Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated September 2026
Duobrom Eye Drops contains Moxifloxacin (0.5%w/v) + Bromfenac (0.09%w/v). It belongs to the Fluoroquinolone and Eye drops class of medicines.
This medicine combines 2 active ingredients: Moxifloxacin and Bromfenac. Moxifloxacin kills the bacteria causing your infection by blocking the enzymes they use to copy their DNA. Bromfenac acts directly on the surface and inside of the eye where it is instilled.
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Most side effects of Duobrom are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
| Pregnancy | Not recommended in pregnancy — it may harm the developing baby. Tell your doctor at once if you are or might be pregnant. |
|---|---|
| Breastfeeding | Consult your doctor before using this while breastfeeding. |
| Alcohol | Alcohol may worsen the side effects of this medicine. Limit it. |
| Driving | May cause drowsiness or affect your concentration. Do not drive until you know how it affects you. |
| Kidney | Consult your doctor if you have kidney disease. |
| Liver | Use with caution if you have liver disease — your doctor may adjust the dose or monitor your liver function. |
| Habit forming | No |
Stop and contact your doctor at once if you develop pain, swelling or tenderness in a tendon — the Achilles tendon at the back of the ankle in particular. This group can damage tendons, and the risk is higher in older people and with steroids. Report any new numbness, tingling or burning in the hands or feet promptly. Tell your doctor about any change in mood, confusion or agitation. Avoid strong sunlight and use sun protection — this group makes the skin burn more easily. Finish the whole course; this group is heavily associated with antibiotic resistance and should be used only when prescribed. Never let the dropper tip touch your eye, eyelid or fingers — that is how a bottle becomes contaminated and causes a worse infection. Discard the bottle one month after you first open it, even if drops remain. Remove soft contact lenses before instilling drops and wait fifteen minutes before putting them back, unless the drops are specifically made for use with lenses. Seek same-day care for eye pain, marked redness, sensitivity to light or any loss of vision. Steroid eye drops must only be used under medical supervision — used wrongly they can raise eye pressure and damage sight. Glaucoma drops must be used every day for life; there are no symptoms until sight is already lost.
Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Generally avoided in children and adolescents, in pregnancy, and in anyone with a history of tendon problems with these antibiotics. Not for anyone with a known allergy to the preservative in the preparation.
Antacids, iron, zinc, calcium and milk markedly reduce absorption — separate them by at least two hours. Tell your doctor if you take steroids, a blood thinner or a medicine for heart rhythm. Beta blocker eye drops can be absorbed enough to slow the heart and tighten the airways — tell your doctor if you have asthma or a heart condition.
Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Discard the bottle one month after you first open it, even if some is left. Keep out of the reach of children.
Drink plenty of water through the course. Separate it from antacids, milk and mineral supplements. Press gently on the inner corner of the eye for a minute after instilling — this keeps the drop in the eye and reduces the bitter taste. Leave five minutes between two different drops. Never share eye drops with anyone.
