Composition of Esocet-L Capsule

Esocet-L Capsule contains Esomeprazole (as gastro-resistant) 40 mg + Levocetirizine dihydrochloride 5 mg. It belongs to the Proton Pump Inhibitor (esomeprazole) + Second-generation H1 antihistamine (levocetirizine) class of medicines.

How Esocet-L Capsule works

Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that reduces stomach acid by blocking the H+/K+ ATPase pump in gastric parietal cells. Levocetirizine is a selective H1 antihistamine that reduces allergy symptoms like sneezing, itching and watery eyes.

How to take Esocet-L Capsule

Capsule: take as prescribed by the doctor. Generally taken once daily; preferably on an empty stomach 30–60 minutes before food (often before breakfast). Swallow whole; do not crush or chew.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine may cause confusion, blurred vision, sweating and a fast heartbeat. It can cause severe drowsiness, a fast heartbeat, confusion and, in children, agitation and fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Esocet-L Capsule

Most side effects of Esocet-L are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Headache
• nausea
• abdominal pain
• diarrhoea
• constipation
• flatulence
• dry mouth
• dizziness
• drowsiness
• fatigue

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Esocet-L Capsule

Warnings and precautions

May cause drowsiness—avoid driving/alcohol if affected. Use with caution in severe liver disease; dose adjustment may be needed. Long-term PPI use may be associated with low magnesium, vitamin B12 deficiency, bone fracture risk and gut infections; use the lowest effective dose. Seek medical advice if alarm symptoms occur (weight loss, blood in vomit/stool, persistent vomiting, difficulty swallowing). Not recommended for self-medication for prolonged periods.

Do not take Esocet-L if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. The sedating antihistamines are not suitable for very young children, or for people with glaucoma or an enlarged prostate, without medical advice.

Interactions with other medicines

Warfarin/acenocoumarol (INR changes), clopidogrel (reduced effect with PPIs), diazepam, phenytoin, digoxin, methotrexate (high dose), ketoconazole/itraconazole (reduced absorption), atazanavir/nelfinavir (reduced levels), sedatives/CNS depressants (additive drowsiness with levocetirizine), alcohol (increased sedation)

How to store Esocet-L Capsule

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister/strip and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Esocet-L Capsule

Take it before breakfast, not after a meal. Eat smaller meals, avoid late dinners, raise the head of your bed and avoid smoking — these do as much as the tablet for reflux. Taking it at bedtime reduces the impact of any drowsiness. Identify and avoid your triggers where you can — dust, pollen, cold air.
