How Gapitas L Gel works

This medicine combines 2 active ingredients: Gabapentin and Lidocaine. Gabapentin calms the over-active nerve signals that cause burning, shooting and tingling pain. Lidocaine supports the care of a minor injury or wound.

How to take Gapitas L Gel

Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer and rub it in gently. Wash your hands before and after use, unless your hands are the area being treated. This is for use on the skin only — do not swallow it. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Apply it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the next application, skip the missed one — applying extra does not make up for it.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause deep drowsiness, confusion, unsteadiness and slowed breathing, especially with an opioid or alcohol. It is unlikely from external use. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Gapitas L Gel

Most side effects of Gapitas L are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Local irritation
• Redness
• Stinging

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Gapitas L Gel

Warnings and precautions

This medicine causes drowsiness and unsteadiness, particularly when you start it or the dose goes up. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you. Never stop it suddenly. Stopping abruptly can cause anxiety, sleeplessness, sweating and, in people taking it for epilepsy, fits. Your doctor will taper it. Tell your doctor about any change in mood or any thoughts of harming yourself. The dose is usually built up slowly from a low starting point — follow the schedule your doctor gave you rather than jumping to the full dose. Pregabalin comes under Schedule H1 from 16 November 2026 and will then need a prescription and a pharmacy register entry. For external use only, unless the pack says otherwise. See a doctor for a deep, dirty or heavily bleeding wound, an animal bite, or any wound showing signs of infection. Check that your tetanus cover is current after any dirty or penetrating wound.

Do not take Gapitas L if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for use on large burns or deep wounds without medical advice.

Interactions with other medicines

Opioid painkillers, alcohol, sleeping tablets and antihistamines all add to the drowsiness, and the combination with opioids can dangerously slow breathing. Antacids reduce the absorption of gabapentin — separate them by a couple of hours. No significant interactions are expected.

How to store Gapitas L Gel

Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Close the cap tightly after each use. Keep out of the reach of children.

Expert advice for Gapitas L Gel

Take the larger part of the dose at night if drowsiness is a problem. Rise slowly from sitting or lying, especially in the first weeks. Keep your review appointment so the dose can be adjusted to the lowest that controls your pain. Clean the wound first, then apply, and keep it covered and dry.
