Amorolfine 5% w/v (as amorolfine hydrochloride) medicated nail lacquer
Treatment of fungal infections of the nails (onychomycosis) caused by dermatophytes, yeasts and moulds, especially mild to moderate infections affecting the nail plate
Amorolfine is a topical antifungal that inhibits sterol synthesis in fungal cell membranes by blocking enzymes involved in ergosterol production. This disrupts the fungal cell membrane, stopping fungal growth and leading to clearance of infection over time.
For external use on nails only. File the affected nail surface (use separate file for infected nails), clean/degreae with an alcohol swab, then apply a thin layer of lacquer over the entire affected nail using the applicator. Allow to dry (~3–5 minutes). Typically apply once or twice weekly as advised by a doctor; continue until healthy nail regrows (often 6 months for fingernails and 9–12 months for toenails). Remove old lacquer before reapplying.
Common side effects of LOCERYL NAIL LACQUER may include:
Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and mucous membranes; rinse with water if accidental contact occurs. Do not use on broken/irritated skin around the nail. Stop and consult a doctor if severe irritation/allergic reaction occurs. Avoid cosmetic nail varnish or artificial nails unless advised. Keep away from heat/flame as product may be flammable due to solvents. Use with caution in diabetes, peripheral vascular disease or immunocompromised states—seek medical advice for nail infections.
