How Lorspan Tablet works

Lorspan 5mg Tablet belongs to a class of medicines called antihistamines. It blocks the natural chemical substance (histamine) produced in the body during an allergic state and subsides (lowers) your child’s immune system’s response to these conditions. This relieves the symptoms being faced by your child and also helps treat the allergic condition.

How to take Lorspan Tablet

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not chew, crush or break it unless your doctor has told you to. Take it with or without food, often in the evening. Taking it at about the same time each day helps you remember. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

Warnings and precautions

Do not take Lorspan if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. The sedating antihistamines are not suitable for very young children, or for people with glaucoma or an enlarged prostate, without medical advice.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol, sleeping tablets and other sedating medicines add to the drowsiness. Tell your doctor about all cold and cough preparations — many already contain an antihistamine.

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Try giving the medicines at the same time each day, to help you remember. Your child may feel sleepy or dizzy after each dose of Lorspan 5mg Tablet. If this happens, make your child sit or lie down and ask them to be careful while performing tasks that require mental focus. Dry mouth is a common side effect of Lorspan 5mg Tablet. Encourage your child to take sips of water as that may help. Lorspan 5mg Tablet should be avoided in children who are less than 4 years of age as there is a risk of respiratory distress. Practice self-care tips: Abstain your child from coming in contact with allergens. Maintain a neat and clean ambiance around your child. Encourage your child to wear a face mask and avoid dusty places. Lorspan 5mg Tablet should not be given to children under 12 years of age. Patients with underlying medical conditions like liver, kidney disorders, diabetes, convulsions, etc. should consult their treating doctor before consuming Lorspan 5mg Tablet. Your doctor has prescribed Lorspan 5mg Tablet to help relieve allergy symptoms such as itching, swelling and rashes. As compared to other similar medications, it is much less likely to make you feel sleepy. Be cautious while driving or doing anything that requires concentration as it can cause dizziness and sleepiness. Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication as it may cause increased sleepiness. Stop taking Lorspan 5mg Tablet at least 3 days before taking an allergy test as it can affect the test results.
