Lumigan 0.01% contains Bimatoprost 0.01% w/v ophthalmic solution. It belongs to the Prostaglandin analogue (prostamide) class of medicines.

How Lumigan 0.01% works

Bimatoprost is a prostaglandin analogue (prostamide) that increases the outflow of aqueous humour mainly via the uveoscleral pathway (and to some extent trabecular outflow). This reduces intraocular pressure and helps prevent optic nerve damage.

How to take Lumigan 0.01%

For ophthalmic use only. Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening, or as directed by an ophthalmologist. Do not use more than once daily. If using other eye drops, keep at least 5 minutes gap. Remove contact lenses before use and reinsert after 15 minutes.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine is unlikely from eye use; flush the eye with clean water if too much is instilled. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Lumigan 0.01%

Most side effects of Lumigan 0.01% are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Eye redness (conjunctival hyperemia)
• eye itching
• eye irritation/burning
• foreign body sensation
• dry eyes
• blurred vision
• eyelash growth
• eye pain
• periorbital skin darkening
• iris pigmentation change

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Lumigan 0.01%

Warnings and precautions

May cause permanent increased brown pigmentation of the iris and darkening of eyelid skin; may increase eyelash growth. Use with caution in patients with a history of uveitis/iritis, macular edema (especially aphakic/pseudophakic with torn posterior lens capsule), or active intraocular inflammation. Do not touch dropper tip to any surface to avoid contamination. If eye infection, injury, or surgery occurs, consult doctor. Not for injection or oral use.

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for anyone with a known allergy to the preservative in the preparation.

Interactions with other medicines

Other prostaglandin/prostamide analogues (may reduce IOP-lowering effect if used together),topical beta-blockers/carbonic anhydrase inhibitors/alpha-agonists (additive IOP-lowering effect when used as prescribed),contact lens solutions/preservatives (benzalkonium chloride may be absorbed by soft lenses)

How to store Lumigan 0.01%

Store below 25°C. Protect from light. Keep bottle tightly closed. Do not freeze. Discard as per label instructions after opening or if solution changes color/clarity.

Expert advice for Lumigan 0.01%

Press gently on the inner corner of the eye for a minute after instilling — this keeps the drop in the eye and reduces the bitter taste. Leave five minutes between two different drops. Never share eye drops with anyone.
