Same salt, different brand — what does that mean?

A substitute contains the same active ingredient (salt), in the same strength, as Lupiclor 12.5 Tablet. The medicine inside is the same — the brand name, manufacturer and price are what differ.

All medicines sold in India, branded or generic, must meet the quality standards set by the national drug regulator (CDSCO). A lower price does not mean lower quality.

Please confirm with your doctor or pharmacist before switching brands — they will check that the strength and form match your prescription.

Composition of Lupiclor 12.5 Tablet

Lupiclor 12.5 Tablet contains Chlorthalidone (12.5mg). It belongs to the Water tablet class of medicines.

Uses of Lupiclor 12.5 Tablet

  • High blood pressure
  • Heart failure
  • Fluid retention

Benefits of Lupiclor 12.5 Tablet

In High blood pressure
Lupiclor helps the kidneys pass out extra salt and water, which lowers the volume the heart has to pump and brings blood pressure down.
In Heart failure
Lupiclor clears the fluid that collects in the lungs and legs when the heart is weak, so breathing is easier and the swelling in your ankles goes down.
In Fluid retention
Lupiclor makes you pass more urine so that trapped fluid leaves the body, relieving swelling and the heaviness and discomfort that go with it.

How Lupiclor 12.5 Tablet works

Chlorthalidone helps your kidneys remove surplus salt and water, which reduces swelling and lowers blood pressure.

How to take Lupiclor 12.5 Tablet

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not chew, crush or break it unless your doctor has told you to. Take it in the morning. Taking it at about the same time each day helps you remember. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe dehydration, a sharp fall in blood pressure and dangerous salt imbalances. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Lupiclor 12.5 Tablet

Most side effects of Lupiclor are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:

  • Passing urine more often
  • Dizziness on standing up
  • Low potassium or sodium
  • Muscle cramps
  • Raised uric acid
  • Thirst

Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

In hot weather or during an illness with vomiting or loose motions, tell your doctor — you may become dehydrated quickly.

Do not take Lupiclor if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people who are unable to pass urine, or who are severely dehydrated.

Interactions with other medicines
