Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated August 2026
Lupihist 100 ml contains Diphenhydramine (15mg) + Ammonium Chloride (150mg) + Sodium Citrate (85mg).
Treatment of Cough
Lupihist Syrup is a combination of three medicines: diphenhydramine, ammonium chloride, and sodium citrate. Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine that relieves allergy symptoms such as a runny nose, watery eyes, and sneezing. Ammonium chloride is an expectorant that helps loosen mucus (phlegm) and make it easier to remove from the airways. Sodium citrate helps thin and loosen mucus, making it easier to cough out.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Lupihist Syrup may be taken with or without food.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
If you miss a dose of Lupihist Syrup, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Taking more Lupihist than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Lupihist are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about every medicine you take, including over-the-counter products, vitamins and herbal or ayurvedic preparations, before starting Lupihist. Some combinations can change how Lupihist works or raise the chance of side effects.
Store Lupihist below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the pack tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date printed on the pack.
Lupihist Syrup may cause dizziness or sleepiness, so avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you. Avoid alcohol or other sedating medicines while taking Lupihist Syrup, as they may increase drowsiness. Use a proper measuring cup or spoon to measure the dose, not a household tablespoon. Dry mouth or constipation may occur; staying hydrated and maintaining fiber intake may help. Do not combine Lupihist Syrup with other cough or cold medicines containing antihistamines or sedatives unless advised by your doctor. If you have diabetes, monitor your blood glucose levels while taking Lupihist Syrup. Inform your doctor if you have a history of thyroid disease, heart disease, glaucoma, or urinary retention before using Lupihist Syrup. Avoid smoking or exposure to secondhand smoke, as it may worsen cough and throat irritation. Seek medical attention if you develop a high fever, chest pain, breathlessness, or cough up blood. Stop taking Lupihist Syrup and consult your doctor if cough lasts more than about one week, keeps recurring, or occurs with fever, rash, or persistent headache. Stop the medicine and seek urgent medical help if rash, swelling of the face, or breathing difficulty occurs.
